10 Recent Horror Movies That Were WAY Better Than Expected
1. Night of the Zoopocalypse
It's never a good sign when an animated film of all things is basically sent out to die with only the most meager of marketing, and so, expectations were largely kept low for Night of the Zoopocalypse.
When you dig down into what the movie actually is, though, it's perhaps easier to appreciate why it was given a barely-advertised, limited theatrical run.
Inspired by a short story from Clive Barker (Hellraiser), this is effectively a zombie movie aimed at kids, as a group of zoo animals attempt to survive the aftermath of a meteor strike that has turned their fellow residents into mutants.
Horror is a tough sell to kids at the best of times, but for those who actually bothered to watch it, Night of the Zoopocalypse is actually great fun - a shamelessly silly, gorgeously colourful outing that's both a perfect gateway to horror for younger viewers and an engaging ride for The Olds.
Though it sadly only grossed $5.2 million globally, this is one of the best-reviewed horror films and animated films of the year so far.
