Megan Fox isn't the only thing that both Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have in common. Both franchises have also found themselves in desperate need of a new cinematic direction, and both have recently found it.

The former turned to animation in the form of Transformers One, while the latter also went down the animation route with Mutant Mayhem. Particularly when compared to the two most recent entries in the TMNT portfolio - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 2014, and Out of the Shadows from 2016 - Mutant Mayhem was a welcome and joyous breath of fresh air.

The cast, boasting the likes of Jackie Chan, Ayo Edibiri, Seth Rogan, John Cena, Ice Cube, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Giancarlo Esposito, and Paul Rudd, brought an insane level of star power to support the four youngsters who brought the titular turtles to life (Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon).

The core four characters absolutely shone, and paired with a unique and stunningly beautiful animation style, as well as a fun story that didn't take itself too seriously, the film became a hit. Unsurprisingly, a sequel was quickly greenlit, with Shredder set to be introduced. Mutant Mayhem 2 may have just been delayed for a year, but this will not hamper the anticipation and excitement for the next instalment in the invigorated franchise.
