10 Recent Movies That Should've Ended Earlier
5. Carry-On
Flight Risk isn't the only recent Die Hard knock-off that didn't know when to stop.
Carry-On, an action thriller revolving around a TSA agent, Ethan (Taron Egerton), who attempts to stop a terrorist attack at an airport on Christmas Eve, is a preposterous but moderately entertaining time.
And the film reaches a natural conclusion when Ethan kills a terrorist known only as The Traveler (Jason Bateman), in turn saving the day. Ethan is then reunited with his pregnant girlfriend Nora (Sofia Carson) as the authorities descend upon the area.
This is exactly where Die Hard ended, but rather than cue up a plucky Christmas tune to play us out, Carry-On well, carries on, for one more scene.
We cut to one year later, where Ethan and Nora are travelling through an airport with their infant son, and Ethan places an LAPD badge in the security scanning tray, confirming that he finally achieved his dream of becoming a cop.
Except, this utterly by-the-numbers epilogue doesn't really add anything to the movie at all, beyond dragging it to the two-hour mark.
From the previous scene we can infer that Ethan and Nora will go on to have a happy, healthy child and Ethan will probably become a cop - do we actually benefit at all from seeing it?
