3. Dracula On A Boat - The Last Voyage Of The Demeter

The Marvels
Universal

Much as it might seem like low-hanging fruit to adapt a single chapter from Bram Stoker's Dracula, "The Captain's Log," into a feature film of its own, the premise is actually pretty damn irresistable.

What if the crew of a merchant ship discovered that Count Dracula was onboard and slaying his way through the crew?

"Dracula on a boat" sells itself pretty damn easily, yet despite solid performances, high production values, and a killer Dracula design, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a dull slog.

What should've been a lean slasher movie is distended out into a low-energy two-hour endurance trial that's depressingly low on Dracula and extremely padded out by the interpersonal drama of the ship's crew.

The fact that Universal released this thing without the word "Dracula" in the title - as likely resulted in it bombing catastrophically at the box office - was all the proof that they clearly didn't know what they were doing here.
