10 Recent Movies That Wasted INSANE Casts
4. Opus
A24's recent horror film Opus had all the makings of an absolute banger in the vein of Get Out, with one of the genre's most impressively stacked casts in recent memory.
For starters, we've got Ayo Ededibi as protagonist Ariel Ecton, a journalist who gets sucked into the world of a reclusive pop superstar-slash-cult leader played by the legend that is John freakin' Malkovich. As if these two weren't enough of a get, the rest of the cast counted among its number Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, and Tony Hale.
But despite all this star wattage, Opus received wildly mixed reviews for its rather facile, underwhelming take on cults, almost playing out like a parody of what audiences are trained to expect from an A24 horror movie on the subject. It just feels a bit too obvious and simple, when given the names attracted to the script, you'd certainly expect something more incisive and cleverly satirical.
