10 Remakes Of Classic '80s Movies That Bombed Terribly

The Original: One of the smartest, funniest and most entertaining horror comedies of the 1980s, Tom Holland’s Fright Night has a simple premise: what if your next door neighbour was a vampire? What would you do if nobody – not your friends, not the police, not your mother – believed you? Would you confront him yourself or would you contact Peter Vincent, the TV horror host and erstwhile actor?

The Remake: Far from being a cash-in, this new version stays close to the spirit of the original, but its attempts at updating the material for a modern crowd sometimes feel like a square peg being hammered into a round hole. Not only is Roddy McDowall sorely missed, but the changes made to his character (who is now a Las Vegas magician!) aren’t exactly improvements.

Bearing a $30 million price tag, Fright Night opened at #6 and could only scare up $18 million worth of business at the US box office.
