5. Matt Reeve Goes Burrito On Set - The Batman

We can all imagine how long it takes for films to be made. Typically, filming for big-budget movies occurs many months (or sometimes even a full year) before release. Add a pandemic-that-shall-not-be-named into the mix, and understandably every movie’s film shooting gets thrown entirely off-course.

So, it’s easy to forget that The Batman was shot during those times. And while we all took precautions for our health, perhaps few did so to the extent of director Matt Reeves during The Batman’s production. Following Robert Pattinson’s positive test in September 2020, Reeves imagined the worst. He couldn’t see how the production would continue if he fell ill with the virus.

Consequently, Reeves described himself as going “full burrito” on set. For the remainder of filming, his attire included a head covering, a mask (of course) and even a pair of scuba diving goggles. Later, he described himself as a “ridiculous, hermetically sealed creature”.

Indeed, he managed to get through filming without contracting the virus. However, sadly (and perhaps ironically), he did have to miss The Batman’s New York premiere due to getting Covid. He’s all fine now, but I don’t think Reeves and the virus are on speaking terms anymore.
