It would be easy to dismiss Selena Gomez, the twenty-one year old isn't the first name that springs to mind when you think of serious actors making their way in Hollywood. Her on/off relationship with Justin Beiber along with her Disney roots have given her a certain, teeny-bopper, public persona. But Gomez seems keen to kick off her Disney shoes and try her hand at the heavier side of acting. In 2012 she teamed up with James Franco for a starring role in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers. The film about four young college girls on spring break, and their decent into drugs and violence, certainly shows Gomez's willingness to try and shake off her Hannah Montana history. Apparently suffering a breakdown on set, Gomez's gritty performance showcased her strong acting ability. Earlier this year she appeared in William H. Macy's directorial debut Rudderless, another well-received indie drama. It would appear that this is the route Gomez has to go down. Already more famous than some of the other names that will appear on this list, her background will probably hinder rather than help her. But with Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling proving that there is life after Disney, Gomez's is a name we can expect to see bigger and better things from in the future.
