10 Sacred Movie Franchises That Should Never Be Remade Or Rebooted
2. The Godfather
There's a startling amount of younger viewers introduced to The Godfather that find the movie boring, which probably has a lot to do about how the vast majority of mainstream media is no longer designed to capture the imagination for any great length of time.
Which is a shame, because the first two pulled off the impressive feat of delivering two of the greatest movies in history back-to-back as part of the same series, although the shine came off a little with the third installment. Often labeled as an outright disaster, Part III is a decent enough crime drama in its own right, but came burdened with the expectations of trying to live up to a couple of stone-cold classics.
There were rumors of a fourth movie in the late-90s that never came to fruition, but even after a protracted legal battle with the estate of author Mario Puzo, Paramount remain in control of the rights and could green-light a new Godfather if they really wanted to.
Which hopefully they don't, because even if the trilogy-closing chapter let the side down a little, The Godfather and Part II remain monuments to American cinema and prime examples of why many people consider the 1970s to be the absolute pinnacle of Hollywood filmmaking before the studios really started establishing control.
