10 Saddest Deaths In Star Wars

5. Padmé Amidala

When Leia mentioned to Luke that she had vague memories of her sad Mother in Return of the Jedi, Padmé Amidala was digging her own grave as soon as she first appeared in The Phantom Menace.

Padmé's death in Revenge of the Sith showcases a rare subtle beauty in George Lucas' directing, with the passing of Amidala after giving birth to the Skywalker twins perfectly mirroring the creation of Darth Vader, in place of her fallen husband, Anakin Skywalker.

Although the vast majority of Anakin and Padmé's love scenes had some of the most cringeworthy dialogue ever put to cinema, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are mostly successful in conveying how strong of a connection and love the pair shared, even if it was clouded in toxicity, something Star Wars: The Clone Wars expanded on. Still, seeing Padmé die as a consequence of her husband's misguided attempts to save her life is still incredibly gut-wrenching, even if the cause of her death is left somewhat ambiguous. For what is a mostly tearful scene, Amidala's passing is only ruined by the laughable howl the newly-appointed Vader lets out after learning of his wife's demise.
