10 Scariest Foreign Language Horror Films
1. Suspiria
Drenched in neon, smothered in Goblin’s prog-rock musical wizardry and doused in blood, Suspiria had absolutely earned its’ right to be regarded as a horror classic.
This Italian horror film is an overwhelming sensory experience of horror that is terrifying and transfixing in equal measure. Dario Argento’s giallo-inspired magnum opus tells the story of Suzy, an American ballet student arriving at the prestigious Tanz Akademie dance school.
What follows is a surreal tale of witchcraft, murder and dance that has captivated audiences since its release in 1977. The disjointed and jarring English dub adds to the overall strangeness of the film, with the film originally made in Italian.
Suspiria is gory, disorientating and still holds up today despite countless parodies and pop culture references. The remake is pretty damn good too, but absolutely nothing beats the original.
