2. The Taking Of Deborah Logan

The directorial debut of Adam Robitel (Insidious: The Last Key, Escape Room) is another found footage film that packs an uncommonly tantalising punch.

The Taking of Deborah Logan follows a documentary crew who are making a film about the titular elderly woman (Jill Larson) suffering with Alzheimer's disease, though it soon enough becomes clear that something more sinister is at play.

Despite its familiar style, Robitel's film subverts possession movie cliches by taking a few neat swerves around the expected narrative trajectory, ahead of a third act that delivers one of the most horrifying sights from any horror film this past decade.

What really takes the film to the next level, though, is Larson's performance as Deborah, making her a figure at once sympathetic and deeply terrifying.
