10 Scariest Short Horror Films You've Probably Never Seen

7. Behind The Door (2013)

Created as part of the 'Who’s There' Film Challenge - of which Lights Out took the crowning prize - first time writer-director Baylea Hart’s Behind the Door sees a young man return home in the middle of the night in a panic. His face is bloodied and his nervous glances out the curtained window suggests he’s running from something, as a radio news report informs viewers that a child has been attacked.

Things only get stranger when the disembodied voice of the man’s younger brother pleads from behind the front door to let them in, though the older sibling suspects that the late-night visitor could be a mysterious entity that has the power to change its voice to trick its victims. With paranoia and uncertainty creeping in throughout the next three minutes, this short exemplifies the fear of the unknown to spine-chilling effect.

As the short goes on, viewers can use snippets of information to discern the horrifying truth about what happened earlier that night. However, the real terror stems from the mystery surrounding the creature outside.

With the only thing viewers seeing of this monster being its face in a final scare reminiscent of the famous jump scare from The Exorcist, this closing image will linger in audiences’ nightmares long after the credits have finished rolling.
