Release Date: July 15, 2016 Bridesmaids director Paul Feig reunites with Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig for the Ghostbusters reboot, one of the most anticipated projects of 2016 by a long shot, whatever your hopes are for it. McCarthy and Wiig play a pair of unheralded authors whose belief in the supernatural makes their book the laughing stock of academia. They are poised to have the last laugh, however, as (just like in the original) a ghost invasion is about to rock New York City. McCarthy and Wiig are two of the funniest actresses making movies right now, and their inclusion alone is enough to get excited about this film. The rest of the main cast is made up of Saturday Night Lives Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, with Chris Hemsworth set to play the role of Ghostbusters receptionist, a switcheroo that some have called contrived but in all likelihood will lead to a whole lot of laughs. Even ex-Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd is getting caught up in the excitement, waxing lyrical about the dynamic between the cast members:
Yeah, its going to be hot! The interplay with each of them, their individual voices are so well defined. Theyre just such different characters, and theres a friction. Theres a dynamic there. Im not going to spoil it for people, but its going to be big!
All we need now is a ringing endorsement from Bill Murray and fanboys the world over can stop getting their boxers in a twist over the female cast and start getting excited about something that could lead to a new flurry of films - Ghostbusters Shared Universe, anyone?
