10 Seemingly Brilliant Movie Casting Choices Which Ultimately Fell Flat

2. Christoph Waltz As Blofeld - Spectre

Christoph Waltz playing a villain in Sam Mendes' follow up to the jaw-dropping James Bond feature Skyfall (2012) seemed like a match made in heaven when news first broke of his casting as the infamous Ernst Stavro Blofeld...well, sort of.

For some reason, the actor and those involved with the project seemed to want to keep this reveal hush-hush, despite every fan with a Twitter account seeing it coming a mile off. But that didn't matter as Waltz had proven time and time again that he was arguably the finest villainous performer on the planet, and even the filmmakers' failed attempts to disguise him as Franz Oberhauser couldn't curb people's excitement.

So, it's just a monumental shame that when it came to the release of Spectre (2015) Waltz didn't quite pull off the sort of captivating portrayal that would have gave the series yet another formidable obstacle for Daniel Craig's Bond to overcome.

Waltz himself has since admitted that he was unhappy with certain elements of his performance, but at least he'll get a chance to redeem himself in the upcoming No Time to Die (2020).

As long as he refrains from referring to Bond as a cuckoo this time round, Waltz should be just fine.
