After Insidious 2 successfully built on the classic haunted house approach of the first film - evolving quite impressively into a more expansive supernatural thriller - hopes that a third instalment wouldn't fall flat on its face were quite high. However, with director James Wan wiping his hands of the series, and main stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne not attached either, there's more than a few question marks ahead of number 3's June 5th release date. Filling the directorial boots though is Leigh Whannell who, although making his debut in the big boy chair, wrote the script for the two previous outings. The story at least appears to be in safe hands then, and with the focus now being on a different cast of characters there's scope for the franchise to go in a number of new directions. Filling Wilson and Byrne's considerable boots this time out are Dermot Mulroney, star of NBC's Crisis, and Stefanie Scott from Disney Channel's A.N.T Farm. With both better known for their TV work than their film it'll be interesting to see how they, with a rookie director, make the transition into a leading movie part, but if there's half as many jump-scares and plot twists then this demonic franchise will be in safe hands.
