6. Hum Tum (When Harry Met Sally)

It's a long time ago that Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were ever considered entertaining or good actors, and in a sense When Harry Met Sally represents their respective career peaks; it's a hilarious, witty and hugely popular film that has had an enduring legacy. Its central point, that a man and woman can't be friends without rutting has resonated through cinema and our lives ever since, but with India's considerably less-liberal mindset, they've had to tone the concept down a bit. In Hum Tum, the idea is that the protagonists cannot be friends without
falling in love instead of getting physical, though ironically, this ends up happening anyway, so the coyness sort of seems pointless in the end. While this isn't the most original idea in the world, the manner in which it adheres to the Hollywood film's plot makes it clear that it is essentially an unauthorised remake, following exactly the same beats if toning down the more salacious - and dare we say, honest - moments from the first film. Aw, what a shame.
