10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About Marvel's Phase 3

5. Venom Will Be The Main Villain - Spider-Man

Whilst there are tons of villains to choose from with regards to the latest MCU Spider-Man reboot flick, there's a theory currently doing the rounds that claims that the film will utilise Venom as its main villain. Said theory also purports that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock will start out the movie as best friends, only to be torn apart by Peter becoming Spider-Man. Granted, Venom was used as one of three villains in Sam Raimi's ill-fated Spider-Man 3, but the characterisation - not to mention the casting of Topher Grace as Eddie Brock - was totally off; all that happened was that Venom came off looking like a bit of a chump. Chances are that Spider-Man won't opt to go down the "Norman/Harry Osborn" route anytime soon, because that's a story that we've seen done to death. Bringing back Venom, however, makes a lot of sense because it's a chance to nail an iconic villain and bring him into the world of the MCU. And right now there are no characters like Venom in the MCU - not to mention that the guy has a huge and loyal fanbase just itching to see him again. Also: should the movie do well, a spin-off flick could certainly be on the cards, which is one of those long-gestating development hell projects that Marvel fans would love to see.
