This death was premature, unnecessary and completely avoidable. Whatever your stance on Batman Vs. Superman is, these are three factors that are unquestionable.

It was premature as, already mentioned, it was only this iteration of the Man of Steel's second appearance. It was unnecessary as Batman had already accepted Kal was a hero and Wonder Woman had already emerged from hiding. And it was completely avoidable too, as Wonder Woman would've been able to use the kryptonite spear to defeat Doomsday without it affecting her in the slightest.

The only thing it really can get points for is being shocking, but that doesn't really account for all of the aforementioned elements, does it?

Perhaps if this happened even five films later than it did then it would have been something. Instead, it was little more than an unpleasant surprise.
