It's pretty clear that the Harry Potter series becomes increasingly darker in tone the further along Harry's journey the films go. From a wide-eyed, fresh-faced boy to looking like a weary soldier by the conclusion of Deathly Hallows, the Harry Potter movies have no shortage of moments that act as trigger points for the heroes to overcome.

In fact, Harry's whole life is pretty much a series of trigger moments that he has to overcome. From the death of his parents and near-captivity from the Dursley family, to the growing power of Voldemort's horcruxes on him, the boy who lived, along with his friends, is almost always the symbol of hope in the dark times.

However, this good nature is really pushed to the limit in The Half Blood Prince. The whole film is really centred around the two diverging paths of Harry and Draco Malfoy, with Draco constantly battling his own sense of control and slipping closer and closer towards the side of Voldemort.

After Ron is poisoned by some mead, Harry confronts Malfoy as being the culprit in the boy's toilets and the two engage in a tense duel. Either sparked by the damage done to his friend, or his hatred of Malfoy, Harry unleashes the Half Blood Prince's curse on Draco, leaving a pretty sickening blow to his foe that only Professor Snape can save him from. Without a doubt, this is the most shockingly brutal thing audiences have ever seen Harry produce and it really alienates him from the light of hope we know him as in the rest of the franchise.
