10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching The Nun

6. Frenchie Feeding His Goats

As well as being depicted and shown with snakes, Valak is also sometimes shown to have a close relationship with goats. Having long been associated with the Devil and all things evil in the world, goats have cropped up as a symbol of a sinister presence in the world of horror numerous times over the years.

When Father Burke and Sister Irene arrive in Romania, the first place they visit is the home of local lad Frenchie, the delivery man who found the body of Sister Victoria, the Nun who hung herself during the film's opening.

Frenchie is introduced as a laid back individual who immediately takes a liking to Sister Irene, however it is his first action that should really draw an audience's attention. Going over to his small yard, Frenchie begins lazily tossing some food around for his livestock which are shown to be a collection of black goats.

It might only be a coincidence or simply a common animal to have around the place, but the decision to include these goats at the home of the person who will later be possessed by the evil prescence makes for a nice subtle detail to unearth.
