10 Smartest Decisions In Fantasy Movie History
3. Taking Treebeard Past Isengard - Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings is the most influential fantasy series of all time, and it's not easy to meet someone who doesn't have at least a passing knowledge of the story.
There are a number of decisions made by characters over the trilogy which turn out to be almost clairvoyantly wise, but there is one moment in particular which has a far greater impact than it may seem at first glance.
During the events of The Two Towers, Merry and Pippin happen across Treebeard, an ancient Ent residing in equally ancient Fangorn Forest.
After a long wait, the two young hobbits are told that the Ents will not lend their aid against Isengard or Mordor. He offers to take the hobbits out of the forest, and Pippin persaudes Treebeard to take them past Isengard, where the Ent sees just how much of the forest Saruman has destroyed, and how many Ents he has killed in the process.
Treebeard's resulting rage is enough to secure the Ents' assistance in taking down Isengard while its forces are away, and Saruman is defeated with little trouble.
Quick thinking for a hobbit who seems to be far from the smartest of the Fellowship.
