10 Status Updates On Famous Horror Franchises

James Wan kickstarted two hugely successful horror franchises in Insidious and The Conjuring, but before either of them came into existence, he gifted horror fans with Saw back in 2004, a film that exploded onto the scene in a way no one could've predicted. Comic books, video games, and, of course, a number of sequels followed, the last of which - a seventh film dubbed "The Final Chapter" - arrived in 2010.

In the years that followed, talk of an eventual reboot unsurprisingly surfaced, but by the end of 2016, a full sequel was in production under the guidance of the Spierig Brothers, the duo directing from a script written by Piranha 3D's Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

True to franchise form, there's a lot of mystery about the exact plot details of the upcoming sequel - called Jigsaw - aside from the fact it'll pick up nearly a decade after John Kramer's death in Saw III, with a mysterious person (or persons) carrying on Jigsaw's legacy.

Outside of new franchise cast members like Laura Vandervoort and Mandela Van Peebles, Tobin Bell will be reprising his role in some capacity, though surely there will be more than a few familiar surprises in store for fans of the original run.

The new film will be arriving in theaters just in time for Halloween on October 27th.
