10 Status Updates On Famous Horror Franchises
2. A Nightmare On Elm Street
Last Entry: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Similar to the Friday the 13th franchise, the Elm Street series ended its original, Robert Englund-led run with 2003's Freddy vs. Jason. After that, the series was retooled - sans Englund, to the disappointment of many - in 2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street, a critical bomb that failed to launch the franchise anew, leaving it spinning in limbo ever since.
This past June, though, Bloody Disgusting confirmed that a new project penned by screenwriter David Leslie Johnson - who had been tasked with the Elm Street gig back in 2015 - is still in the works. Since that time, Johnson wrote the script for the hugely successful The Conjuring 2 (and is returning for The Conjuring 3) and yet not a single detail about his Elm Street work has leaked out.
Considering how much time has passed and how the first reboot was received, a new film will likely relaunch the franchise all over again, but when it actually arrives - if it ever does - remains to be seen. Like his fellow horror cohorts, Freddy Krueger is too iconic to stay dead forever, but fans have no choice but to continue waiting for his return, whatever form that may take.
