Last Film Entry: Evil Dead (2013)

What's Going On? Finally, a new Evil Dead movie is on the way!

After 1993's Army of Darkness, franchise fans forever held out hope of a new Evil Dead picture. Then, 2013 brought along Fede Alvarez's impressive Evil Dead reboot that teased us with a follow-up that would tie both this film and Sam Raimi's trilogy together, where Mia Allen and Ashley J. Williams would fight the good Deadite fight together.

The great news is that last year saw it announced that a fifth Evil Dead movie is indeed happening. To be directed by The Hole in the Ground's Lee Cronin, this new film - titled Evil Dead Rise - will be a standalone affair that will not be any direct continuation of Raimi's trilogy or Alvarez's reboot.

The rumoured premise at the moment suggests a move away from the structure of previous movies, with the Deadite onslaught this time taking place within a city setting, specifically a high-rise building.

Raimi, franchise star Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert are all on board to oversee Evil Dead Rise in a producing capacity, although Campbell has reiterated that he will not be reprising his Ash role for the picture.

Once Ash vs. Evil Dead was cancelled after three seasons, Campbell regularly claimed that he was now officially retired from playing Ash, but many naysayers didn't believe those claims. As it stands though, the character won't be popping up in Evil Dead Rise.

For Evil Dead Rise, filming is due to get underway later this year, with a 2022 release likely.
