10 Stephen King Movie Adaptations That Deserve A Remake

1. The Running Man

The Running Man
TriStar Pictures

Stephen King wrote The Running Man under his Richard Bachman pseudonym, and it wasn’t well known who the writer behind the movie was when it dropped in 1987, serving as another vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger to flex his muscles as the biggest action star in the world at the time. Set in a dystopian future where society has collapsed and its media is under the rule of a police state, the eponymous gameshow is the one outlet that brings together the rich and the poor in pure adulterated violent escapism.

The Running Man offers convicts the chance to compete for freedom if they can navigate a vast game zone without being taken out by one of the legendary stalkers hot on their tail. Arnie plays Ben Richards, a disgraced cop who had escaped prison with members of a resistance, but then finds himself recaptured and entered into the game while also looking to bring down the corrupt officials pulling the strings.

The movie is a quintessential eighties action/sci-fi flick, and features an excellent premise which expanded on in modern times could take the story to a whole new dimension. With modern effects technology the world of The Running Man could be made to look outstanding in comparison to what was achieved in 1987, with the possibility of creating awesome new gladiator characters and inventive kill sequences more than justifying a revisit.
