A short story written back in the 60s, Strawberry String tells the tale of a serial killer wreaking havoc on a New England college campus. The book begins several years after the crime, with the narrator looking back and retelling the tale.

The story takes some unexpected turns as the killer throws the entire campus into a state of panic, with the local police force and college security officers struggling to cope with the situation. This isn't the first story about a college killer and won't be the last, but King's mastery of the form helps to make Strawberry Spring stand out.

The novel famously featured a thrilling twist ending that could transfer perfectly to the silver screen under the eye of a clever director. When we look at some of King's most successful movie adaptations, they aren't always the most complex stories, so there's no reason why Strawberry Spring, despite a simple premise, wouldn't work as a film.
