10 Stephen King Stories That Deserve Film Adaptations

8. The Eyes Of The Dragon

Eyes Of The Dragon
Viking

One of King's rare fantasy novels, The Eyes of the Dragon shows that the writer's talents aren't just limited to stories of ghosts, ghouls, psychic kids, and psychotic killers. The story takes place in the fantasy realm of Delain, led by a tired king named Roland, who is quietly being manipulated by his most trusted adviser, the magician known only as Flagg.

King Roland's days are coming to an end but he has two sons to take his place. Flagg fears that his own influence and power could wane if the eldest son, Peter, takes to the throne. Thus begins a tale more centred around intrigue and subterfuge than dungeons and dragons, as the power-hungry Flagg quietly moves his pieces and sets a plan in motion to kill the king and oust Peter as the rightful heir.

At a time when Game of Thrones is the biggest thing on TV, a dark fantasy story with political elements like this is well worth a revisit. The Eyes of the Dragon is arguably one of King's most overlooked works, with readers tending to focus on his spookier stories, but it's a great read and could be a top film too.
