10 Stephen King Universe Fates Worse Than Death

A demon who can possess people from a distance, crawling into peoples' minds and hearts, driving them slowly mad - all of this through the eyes of a one-armed man who is trying to put his life back together, poised to lose everything.

Edgar Freemantle discovers a new passion for painting after losing his arm and his works begin to do very well. The house that he stays in during his working time - Big Pink - has housed many successful artists before him. However, a demon that is beginning to wake is funnelled through these paintings, possessing the people who buy them.

Freemantle's legacy, despite the eventual success over the demon, is that his artwork was successful to a point, before those who own his works become recepticles for death. His daughter is drowned by an art-critic who had one of his pieces and, though he survives the eventual battle, he is forced to see a shadow of her one more time, taunting him, forever condemning him to the memory of his creations and their dangers.
