10 Stupid Comic Book Movie Deaths That Should Never Have Happened

4. Black Widow (Avengers: Endgame)

For the second time in three movie appearances, Hawkeye was primed to be sacrificed to pull on audience's heart strings. The man had lost his family in the decimation of Avengers: Infinity War, had adopted a darker persona to combat injustice on the street level, and was desperate to do anything that might bring his family back.

The opportunity to sacrifice himself on Vormir so Black Widow could retrieve the soul stone was the perfect way for him to exit the franchise in peace, having done his part to bring his family back. But once again, outside studio interference took priority over narrative sense. Hawkeye had to live so he could train Kate Bishop in an upcoming Disney+ show, so he couldn't die off in Avengers: Endgame. And besides, the Black Widow movie, already in production at the time, was a prequel, so it didn't really matter if she were killed off there.

Even if it made her movie, which fans had been waiting on for years, ultimately meaningless. Even if it made no logical sense. Even if it meant Black Widow couldn't show up for the big "lady power" moment in the climactic battle, a movement she arguably started as the first female superhero in the MCU.
