Tight spandex and hot leather - the pillars of modern superheroes. Costumes may be the most identifiable characteristic of many superheroes. From Superman and Spider-man's red and blue skin-tight outfits to Wonder Woman and Thor's armour that looks more like something from a Shakespearian play than common wardrobe in our television.

We see these outlandish uniforms so often nowadays that we've become accustomed to them and often overlook how strange they actually are. Though many films have tried to make these costumes look more serious, giving them a "gritty" redesign, many still ooze that goofiness that has existed seemingly as long as the idea of costumes themselves.

We may not admit to our friends, but we all secretly love to see the bright, colourful costumes that have more spunk than function. They remind us of how fun and comical superheroes should be. They help separate the genre from other action movies and give characters a recognisable look that tells you exactly how to feel, even if that means to laugh.
