5. Colin Farrell

There was probably a very long period of time where you loathed Colin Farrell. I know I did. He was smug and didn't appear to have the talent to back it up. But former playwright Martin McDonagh must have seen something we all missed. In Bruges is a little seen, but much-beloved dark comedy about two Irish thugs stuck in the Belgian city of Bruges for a couple days. It's a phenomenal film, a totally new brand of humor in a film industry thirsting for something funny. And Farrell's performance is wonderful, striking a perfect balance between bastard and beauty.
