Tom Cruise Magnolia Another over-rated actor, another Paul Thomas Anderson to bail him out. This time, it was Tom Cruise, the man known best for playing shirtless volleyball with the Man Who Would Be Batman. But PTA cast him impeccably, this time as seduction artist Frank TJ Mackey in the classic film Magnolia. Mackey is a womanizer of the highest order, talking about taking ownership of women and dominating them with your penis. It's really something to watch. The eventual breakdown of the character and his rise to the height of Mackey's emotion really earned Cruise that Oscar nomination. Seriously, if you haven't watched anything from Cruise in that part, now is the bloody time. AUTHOR'S NOTE: Magnolia will make you very sad.
