10 Terrible Movies By Great Directors

3. The Counselor - Ridley Scott

The Counsellor
20th Century Fox

Some of the most influential films of the last few decades have come from Ridley Scott, but The Counselor is certainly not one of them. Of course, people have had problems with Scott's work over the years, but it is hard to deny that he is a visionary director. Alien, Gladiator, Blade Runner, and so many other movies directed by Scott have been genre-defining. The Counselor is almost disgraceful in comparison with his other work.

What's immediately noticeable about the movie is its pretentious dialogue, which goes on to plague the entirety of the runtime. To make matters worse, the plot is far more bland than anything else Scott has done. It centers on a greedy man whose wealth is not enough for him, so he gets involved in a dangerous drug deal.

The movie lacks any quality of being emotionally engaging, and instead is full of airy conversations about existential ideas. Simply put, it's a movie that is far too full of itself and seems like more of a parody than anything else.
