10 Terrible Movies That Made Great Actors Look Like Failed Amateurs
5. Michael Caine - Jaws: The Revenge
Some argue that Jaws remains the most apt example of classic Hollywood filmmaking. It's hard to argue. Everything about Steven Spielberg's terrifying creation screams "blockbuster", and the film is often credited with changing Hollywood cinema forever upon its release in 1975. But as is so often the case with American cinema - if it's a success, then milk it 'til it's dry. And whilst Spielberg himself promptly hopped ashore when the word "sequel" was whispered, three other directors gleefully manned the seaside camera for three consecutive follow-up films. Jaws 2 and 3 were pretty dire, but number 4 - Jaws: The Revenge - holds a special place in cinema history for bringing screen legend Michael Caine down to its own dismal level. The fourth installment in the Jaws franchise is so lethargically assembled that it can't even get the simple things right. An astonishing wardrobe malfunction occurs during one scene, with Michael Caine's shirt being blatantly bone-dry despite the character having just clambered onto the boat from the cold, blue water. Aside from the infamous occasion where a stormtrooper thumped his head against the control room door and sent the white helmet wobbling around on his shoulders, Michael Caine's waterproof shirt is perhaps the most snickered-at movie moment in Hollywood.
