10 Terrible Movies That Would Have Been Much Better Off With A Different Director

7. Dark Phoenix

Batman v Superman
Fox

Fox's time at the helm of the X-Men franchise was characterized by inconsistency, and after Bryan Singer's follow-up to the blistering Days of Future Past turned out to be a massive disappointment, the studio decided that some fresh blood was needed to try and inject new life into a series that had started to stagnate once again with Apocalypse.

Simon Kinberg may have been a veteran of the franchise having been consistently involved on the writing and producing side since The Last Stand in 2006, but he'd never directed a thing in his life before, so hiring him to make his debut on a $200m superhero movie was seen as a massive gamble.

When Dark Phoenix hit theaters, the decision looked like less of a gamble and more of a complete disaster, with critics savaging what went on to become the biggest box office bomb of last year. Kinberg was so out of his depth that even Aquaman couldn't find him, and his inexperience behind the camera was very clearly the source of many of the movie's shortcomings, as the flat-lining franchise went a big fat zero-for-two in adapting the Phoenix Saga.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
