6. Puddles Takes The Stand - Joker: Folie à Deux

Red One Good Scene
Warner Bros.

Though there was some scattered respect for Joker: Folie à Deux's refusal to merely give fans more of the same, the overwhelming consensus is that Todd Phillips' musical follow-up was a failed exercise in artistic mud-slinging - and one that seemingly hated its own audience.

But even the film's most vocal detractors had to give it up for its marquee sequence, when during Arthur Fleck's (Joaquin Phoenix) trial, one of his surviving victims takes the stand to testify against him.

We're talking of course about Gary Puddles (Leigh Gill), Fleck's former co-worker who he spared in the previous film.

But here, the movie stops dead in its tracks as Puddles is cross-examined by Fleck, whose attempts to discredit Puddles are firmly rebuffed by Puddles' devastatingly powerful testimony.

Leigh Gill's superbly affecting performance in the scene almost makes the entire film worth sitting through, serving as a dramatic turning point for Arthur before he decides to renounce his Joker persona.

Shame about the rest of the movie, though.
