5. Chauncey Jump Scare - Imaginary
Even for Blumhouse's all-over-the-place standards, Imaginary was a thoroughly naff romp, taking the not-bad concept of a child's "imaginary" friend wreaking havoc and doing nothing interesting or even basically unsettling with it.
The film's also packed to the gills with obnoxious, predictable jump scares, though credit where credit's due, there is a single one that actually proves bracingly effective.
Mid-way through the movie, the central family's neighbour Liam (Matthew Sato) is in their house when he's suddenly tormented by the demonic entity known as Chauncey, which initially takes the form of a stuffed teddy bear.
When Liam emerges into the upstairs hallway, Chauncey rolls his way towards him while underneath a blanket, and as he gets close, he suddenly mutates into a gigantic, grotesque, demonic bear-monster for all of a hot second, causing Liam to fall over in terror.
It's at least a jump scare that has a measure of creativity to it, yet it's also the only moment in the movie that'll likely raise your pulse at all.
