10 Terrifying Children's Movies You Used To Watch on Repeat

5. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

The second Spielberg film on the list isn€™t as gory as his first entry, but for some reason I found it almost exactly as scary when I was a kid. Not quite as legendary an entry as Raiders, you€™d still be hard pressed to find someone who didn€™t immediately recognize the iconography of Elliott€™s flying bicycle silhouetted against the full moon (although to be fair it€™s also the logo for Spielberg€™s Amblin Entertainment). Easily the most emotional and meaningful film on the list so far, E.T. managed to turn one of the ugliest alien puppets ever into one of cinema€™s most universally beloved characters. I find it hard to believe that anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s missed this film, but if you did then you seriously need to get out there and find a copy, pronto. For everyone who is familiar with the movie, you probably already know what made this movie so scary: that€™s right, the Hazmat guys. The scene in which they shrink wrap Elliott€™s house and try to capture E.T. used to literally paralyze me with fear. It probably had something to do with the fact that they emitted some intense Darth Vader vibes.
