5. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

The second Spielberg film on the list isnt as gory as his first entry, but for some reason I found it almost exactly as scary when I was a kid. Not quite as legendary an entry as
Raiders, youd still be hard pressed to find someone who didnt immediately recognize the iconography of Elliotts flying bicycle silhouetted against the full moon (although to be fair its also the logo for Spielbergs Amblin Entertainment). Easily the most emotional and meaningful film on the list so far,
E.T. managed to turn one of the ugliest alien puppets ever into one of cinemas most universally beloved characters. I find it hard to believe that anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s missed this film, but if you did then you seriously need to get out there and find a copy, pronto. For everyone who is familiar with the movie, you probably already know what made this movie so scary: thats right, the Hazmat guys. The scene in which they shrink wrap Elliotts house and try to capture E.T. used to literally paralyze me with fear. It probably had something to do with the fact that they emitted some intense Darth Vader vibes.
