10 Terrifying Dream Sequences In Horror Movies

1. Sy's Nightmare - One Hour Photo

Directed by Never Let Me Go's Mark Romanek, 2002's One Hour Photo is a disturbing psychological thriller which earned the dubious honour of being listed amongst the scariest films in which no one dies by an earlier WhatCulture list.

And the film deserves this accolade, as its story of a troubled photo technician who becomes obsessed with a seemingly perfect family features one of the late, great Robin Williams most impressively against-type roles.

As the creepy, seemingly harmless Sy, Williams drops the nervous energy which charges his many comic roles and instead offers an unsettling portrait of a deeply damaged man attempting to insinuate himself in a family's life against their wishes.

So a horror remix of Ms. Doubtfire, then.

Unlike that earlier comedy, though, One Hour Photo also features a horrifying nightmare sequence which more than makes up for its lack of onscreen deaths. It's a simple enough set up which sees our hero dream of a blank white room and features him bleeding profusely from his eyes before he awakens with a scream.

It's also an unforgettably gruesome and visceral sequence which re-affirms the film's theme of never trusting appearances with the subtlety of a hammer blow.
