10 Terrifying Horror Movies You’ve Probably Never Seen
2. Daniel Isn't Real (2019)
Still many years from being a household name in horror, Adam Egypt Mortimer has nonetheless been doing the dark lord's work in the genre, bringing some nightmare visions to life on screen while pretty much everybody has slept on them.
The crowning jewel of his work to date is Daniel Isn't Real, a psychological body horror that uses all the tropes of about ten different horror subgenres to feel fresh as all hell. Somewhere between Fight Club and Possessor, Daniel Isn't Real pits Miles Robbins' anxious and troubled university student Luke Nightingale against his childhood friend Daniel (a slick, buff and brutal Patrick Schwarzenegger) in a battle for who gets to pilot the Luke-mobile.
The mystery elements in the film help drive the story and keep us on the edge of our seats, but it is the preternatural and supernatural visuals that make this movie a terrifying cut above the rest. Without giving too much away, the film manages a balancing act between curiosity and fear that invokes many of our worst nightmares and even creates a few new ones. Enjoy!
