From the moment a Hollywood picture is announced, through its production to the day of its release, the media are instrumental in creating buzz about the film, and all publicity is good publicity.

When it came to publicizing The Canyons, the media focused on one thing – the presence of Lindsay Lohan. Her appearance alone guaranteed a train wreck of epic proportions, or so it was believed, and the movie was tagged as an out of control production, another nail in the coffin of Lohan’s career etc.

Even Rolling Stone gets thrown off adult movie sets, and there’s a reason for that – the industry doesn’t need the press. It doesn’t need, or want, the endless speculation, naysaying and mockery that passes for ‘news’ in the digital era. Their content speaks for itself, and people are capable of finding it without being directed to it by journalists.
