10 Things MCU Fans Found Too Distracting
8. Dreykov's Russian Accent
From one accent to another, though this one was not about how one changed over time, instead this was more about how strange the accent of a one-off character spoke.
The fact that Dreykov spoke with a Russian accent in Black Widow wasn’t the issue at all. In fact, if the film’s main villain had spoken with any other accent it would have made far less sense. The problem here was that it was Ray Winstone speaking in that Russian accent.
Winstone has a great many movies to his name, and in the right role can bring a lot to a character. This however, was not the right role. The actor is known for his grizzled cockney accent, so why on Earth would he be cast as a Russian?
This wouldn’t have mattered if Winstone was actually any good at speaking with a Russian accent, but Black Widow is the proof that this is simply not a string in his bow. Every sentence had a cockney twang that was impossible to ignore, and it made the character utterly impossible to take seriously.
