1. Everyone dying from a nuclear meltdown

Not even the best contingency plans will be able to safeguard against an end-of-the-world scenario. Once the power runs out, nuclear power plants could go critical within days. So why aren€™t apocalyptic films all set in a barren wasteland of radiation, a bit like The Road but with the only survivors living underground? I guess that€™s a pretty narrow scope for storytelling. And no living characters somewhat limits plot development. So I guess we€™ll have to ignore technological realities when we get our zombie fix in future...
