1. Both Franchises Have Films That Grossed Over $1 billion
The main thing that these two colossal franchises share is undoubtedly their phenomenal box office success. The Avengers, Iron Man 3, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises have all individually amassed a global box office income of over $1 billion. Those figures put the four respective movies in to the top 20 highest grossing movies of all-time (with Iron Man 3 and Avengers being in the top 5 and The Dark Knight Rises being in the top 10), which is an astounding feat for a quartet of movies based on comic books and something that would have been unheard of only a few years prior to their release. A genre that used to be considered something of a niche market is now attracting the interest of a new generation of movie-goers. Movie-goers who don't necessarily need to be remotely interested in comic books to enjoy them, either. Long may such things continue!
