10 Things We'll Miss About Blockbuster Video Stores

1. People

Employment Now, I know I am biased as I used to be one of these people, but the employees at Blockbuster were so super cool. You could ask them a question about anything movie related and one of them would know the answer. I, as well as a few of my co-workers, would have customers that asked for me specifically to walk them around the store and pick a movie for them. The thing about Blockbuster employees is that they have seen just about every movie there is to choose from within their store. As an employee, one of the perks was five free movie rentals a week, and we would go through sections, week by week, and compare notes. If a customer had just seen a movie with Jude Law in it and was totally obsessed, we could recommend at least five other great movies that he was in that we personally had seen and enjoyed. Netflix doesn't recommend movies because of what you think. It recommends movies because of what you've seen, whether you liked it or not. It becomes a pain to rate movies on a stars basis after you've watched so many. I have many a time sat and stared at my computer screaming, "I just want someone to tell me what to watch!". At Blockbuster, there were a minimum of four people at any given time who were there specifically for that reason. And there was always that cute guy or cute girl that worked at Blockbuster that you went in to see or hang out with when it was slow. There are no hot guys or girls when you rent movies from Netflix or Redbox. Suffice it to say, Blockbuster was a huge part of a lot of people's childhoods and it will be sorely missed. RIP Blockbuster, you came, you saw, you conquered, then you yourself were conquered.
