10 Things You Didn’t Know About Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
1. The Final Image Was Supposed To Close The Book
The final image of a film is the one that stays with you long after the film ends. Mary Poppins flying away on her umbrella, Luke and Han getting their medals, Andy saying farewell to his toys, the endless dance parties that animated films insist on having.
The Last Crusade is no different to this, as it sees, Indy, Henry, Salah and Marcus at the end of their adventure riding off into the sunset. Paying homage to classic Eastwood/Wayne-era westerns, this ending was a way of saying goodbye to the series - the end, no more films from Doctor Jones.
Unfortunately, in Hollywood, only money talks and despite being adamant that he never wanted to do it, Steven Spielberg greenlit Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull much to the chagrin of the series' faithful.
It began the tradition of trilogies wrapping up with a neat bow only to tag on a 4th film years later for profit's sake, and with a 5th Indiana Jones fast approaching, this trend isn't slowing down any time soon.
