10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Phase 3 Slate

7. What's The Deal With Doctor Strange?

Marvel hasn't even begun promoting Captain America: Civil War yet, so perhaps it's too soon to expect anything from their other 2016 movie, Doctor Strange. Some details have trickled out though, including the fact that The Ancient One will be a mantle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than, well, a really ancient old man. That explains why Tilda Swinton - who recently confirmed that she's joined the movie - has been cast in the traditionally male role. There's been talk that the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man is somehow connected to Doctor Strange, and Kevin Feige himself has stated that the character's powers may be rooted in science. That could just be how Marvel will go about explaining his magic though, similar to Asgard being described as an alien world rather than a piece of ancient North mythology. For the most part though, it doesn't sound like Marvel will be straying too far from the comic books. It's been confirmed that Strange will still be living in his Sanctum Sanctorum on Bleeker Street an that he will once again be an arrogant surgeon who heads East to find someone capable of repairing his hands. With Scott Derrickson at the helm and Benedict Cumberbatch playing Strange, this is may be Phase 3's most exciting film!
