10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Phase 3 Slate

6. Spider-Man's Role In The Marvel Cinematic Universe Isn't What You Expect

Marvel made history when they came to a deal with Sony for Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the wall-crawler (now played by Tom Holland) is set to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War next year. It's thought that he will only have a cameo, but reliable sources have indicated that Marisa Tomei's Aunt May will be joining him, an indication perhaps that the new Peter Parker will have a sizeable role. Kevin Feige meanwhile has confirmed that he'll have a homemade costume when he initially appears, and if those leaked "Sony Hack" emails are to be believes, Peter will be in the Iron Spider suit in time for his 2017 movie. That will incorporate characters from the MCU while also placing a greater focus on Spider-Man's high school supporting cast and a villain who hasn't been seen in one of his movies before now. Little know director Jon Watts (Cop Car) is directing, while it was recently revealed that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Vacation, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone) will write the screenplay. That's an interesting, if not somewhat troubling, combination of talent, but Marvel's vision can definitely be trusted by this point. Once the reboot is released, Spider-Man is expected to also appear in both Infinity War movies.
