10 Things You Need To Know About Marvel's Phase 3 Slate

5. Angelina Jolie Is Rumoured To Direct Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is another movie which is so far away that solid details are fairly scarce, but the fact that Marvel very nearly introduced her as one of Captain America's New Avengers at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron is proof that the studio must already have both a look and any number of actresses in mind for the role. Nicole Perlman (who penned the Guardians Of The Galaxy draft that convinced Marvel to green light the movie before James Gunn came and board and rewrote the screenplay) is attached to write alongside Inside Out's Meg LeFauve, and she's described the process as being more "complicated" than Guardians as they look to find the right balance of story and emphases on what a strong female character Captain Marvel is. A number of actresses have thrown their names out there as being interested in playing Captain Marvel, but one very intriguing rumour - which initially came from a usually unreliable source but has since been backed up by far more reliable ones - claims that Marvel wants Unbroken helmer Angelina Jolie to take charge of the movie for them. She's said to be interested as she looks to turn her attentions to a big budget blockbuster, and if Marvel wants a female director for this female-led superhero movie, she's no doubt one of the best options.
